The Concert Blog
The first Show of the new year took place Monday Feb. 2, 2009 at Cpt. Hiram’s. The headline act was a young rock band, Hoobastank. The weather was a bit threatening but held off from the threatened downpour. There was a power failure during sound check just when the band was in place. I forgot a major item at the warehouse two hours from the venue and had to send Rush there to correct my mistake. That left me alone to hook up the PA. That took extra time, but I was finished before Rush was able to complete the round trip, and then came the power failure. After all of the difficulties, the show was good. Everything was smooth after the rough beginning.
2008 has seen a good bit of concert business. We are doing shows at Cpt. Hiram’s in Sebastian Florida on an almost monthly basis. The BrokenSpoke Saloon has kicked its concert schedule into high gear. We did the Indian River Festival in the spring and the Space Coast State Fair in the fall with seven shows between the two events. I plan on making regular posts whenever we do a concert on this page.
Our most recent show took place Wednesday November 19th at the Coliseum in Daytona. The Coliseum was host to an Eddie Money show. This was the first show in the venue. The management wanted to do the show on the house racks and stacks, so we brought in the front of house and monitor boards and the monitor rig. The house system is state of the art equipment, but this show proved that there is not enough of it to do a show of this kind. Joey, Eddie’s front of house engineer, was up against the wall the whole show. He did a great job with the equipment that was available to him.
